Mander on Mandals

A big shout out to fashion spotter of the week, The Manderpants, who texted me from the airport at 7:47am with the first socks-and-sandals sighting of 2009.

Friends, this is an epidemic. Protect yourselves. Remember my words: Socks plus sandals equals scandals. Let's enjoy a scandals-free summer. Yes we can.

hold up. MP is now "The MP"? I'm pretty taken aback by this development. I am not, however, taken aback by the socks&sandals sighting. That is as 'Sconnie as shorts in January.

Okay, so what if you are camping and your are wearing teva's with smartwool socks? Is this as horrible of an offense? Are there times when the sandals + socks rule can be broken? After all, all rules have exceptions. Brown and black sometimes look rocking together. And as Shereen herself has made clear, red and pick can work swimmingly as well. I'm just asking, lil miss what's her tights, I'm just asking.

Alistair. Alistair, Alistair, Alistair. I feel you...kind of. When I was traveling for several weeks with a six-pound backpack, the last thing I wanted to deal with was the additional weight of shoes AND sandals. I thus, brought one pair of Tevas and thin sock that could be worn with them on chilly, dewey mornings. I knew I looked douchey but it was worth not having the extra weight.

Things are different now. When we go camping, you can store your closed shoes in the car while wearing your sandals and vice versa. BUT, if you feel very strongly about wearing socks with your sandals I would say that camping is likely the safest place to do it without having to deal with my fiery wrath. I won't get judgy or mad. But just remember this is coming from a lady who wears skirts in the wilderness. What? It's easier to squat-to-pee in a skirt. I've never "missed."

And yes, it's true--I lived out of a six-pound backpack for over five weeks per stint. I was proud and fierce but definitely not pretty.

Well said...and I'll add that no, it's not ok to wear tights with sandals either: toes look weird.

And MT, MP says she's always "The MP" and can you think of another MP?

Are you, then, "The MT"?

And where does PM fit into all of this?

Sometimes I put flip flops over my socks when I let the dog out. It is one of those lazy moments where you have just made your toes so uncomfortable that you are wincing, but lazy wins because you just won't search out shoes that have laces. They are too much work.

These are the times when I feel so gross. And while I'm feeling gross from that I am watching poop coming out of my dogs butt because I can't look away.

I want to alert your attention to a Vietnamese fashion disaster: the nude sock-sandal, long gloved, masked and helmeted combo. Vietnamese women will go to just about any length to have the whitest of Asian skin (including skin whiting deodorant). If I knew enough about technology I'd upload a photo to show you but I don't how do that in a comment section. xo
